If you’re looking for a luxury shepherd’s hut stay for a perfect weekend holiday, a shepherd’s hut with a hot tub has got to be on that luxury checklist.
Although a shepherd in his original hut may not have been towing his hot tub around with him, a shepherd’s hut in the 21st century has taken on a whole new image and status.
Not just content with a camp bed and a stove, the interior of a shepherd’s hut can be place of majesty and incredible design. Don’t believe me? Just take a look at this article on shepherd’s hut interiors.
Almost all luxury shepherd’s hut will now have their own en-suite bathroom and toilet too – a shepherd’s hut with a hot tub is a high class addition to this.
Reasons to book a shepherd’s hut holiday with hot tub
As if you need a reason for a hot tub holiday!
There’s just something about a hot tub that adds a real sense of extravagance and indulgence to a getaway. That and a lovely cast iron (Ecodesign approved) wood burning stove. A holiday away is all about relaxing and bring those stress levels down.
And that’s exactly what a hot tub is designed to do, as they come with multiple health benefits, including:
- Relieves muscle tension and soreness
- Increases blood flow around the body
- Eases pressure on joints and stiffness
- It can increase sleep quality
- Helps mental health by easing stress and promoting relaxation
Combine it with a nice glass of something fizzy (craft ale for me please) under a starlit evening and you’ll be truly living the good life.
Scandinavian wood fired hot tubs
In keeping with the natural and eco-friendly approach of many huts, hot tubs don’t have to be a major energy drain.
Some of the best hot tubs are the Scandinavian style wood fired hot tubs. They not only add a different sense of luxury, they add a rustic element and touch of charm. You’ve got to love that Scandi hygge style!
Yes, they do take a little prep and time to get to the right temperature (an hour, maybe two, should do it) but once it does heat up, you have both a sense of achievement and can then reap the full rewards of a lovely, toasty hot tub.
Not all the hot tubs below are wood-fired. Some will be powered electrically, which although are much easier to use (you just turn it on and wait) you don’t quite get the same ‘at one with nature’ feeling from getting a roaring fire going to heat the water.
14 Shepherd’s Hut Holidays with Hot Tubs
1. Cowslip Hut, Norfolk
Have a dip in the spring-fed lake and head back to the wood-fired hot tub for a full Scandinavian style soothing session. Cowslip Hut is nestled between a small wooded area and a meadow on a huge 750-acre organic farm close to Norfolk’s Brecks.
The shepherd hut is huge too and packs all the luxury essentials you could want, including a Firepod stone baked pizza oven! The view from the hot tub is pure greenery – a stunning setting by anyone’s standards.
2. South Coombe Shepherd’s Hut, Devon
Nestled into the luscious Devonshire countryside, South Coombe offers top spec shepherd’s hut accommodation.
The interior is exquisite and it even has a skylight above the dinning area-cum-double bed, which is a rare and beautiful touch, meaning you can do a good bit of stargazing in this pollution-free area. There are plenty of well-thought out extra touches at South Coombe.
You also have access to an on-site swimming pool and Finnish sauna, plus access to your own private hot tub after a day of exploring.
3. Digby’s Hut, Peak District
Situated on Brosterfield Farm in the small village of Foolow, Digby’s Hut is a classy, country retreat ideal for full-scale relaxing. A couple of feet away from the hut and in your own private walled garden, you’ll find the ‘Luv Tub’ – a beautifully made, eco-friendly, wood fired hot tub.
A lovely walk around Monsal Dale, quick trip to the pub and back to the hut to fire up the hot tub makes for a fairly unbeatable day – I know because that’s exactly what I did! Read my review on my Digby’s Hut stay here.
4. Bentley’s Frenchmoor, Hampshire
You’ll find yourself in a field of your own here at Bentley’s Shepherd Hut in rural Hampshire, and just next door to Bentley Wood, a piece of land gifted into a trust by Lady Colman of Colman’s Mustard!
This 18ft hut is built by Plankbridge, which tells you it’s pure quality. It packs all the luxuries you could ask for, including a large curved window above the bed. It of course has a Scandinavian wood burning hot tub where you can relax and while away the hours.
5. Shepherds Rest – North York Moors
Set in the North Yorkshire Moors, Shepherds Rest is a true haven of tranquillity. Inside it’s kitted out wonderfully making for a homely, cosy space with wood burner, gas hob and outside you’ll find a odourless composting toilet (which are fantastic by the way) and basic shower.
As you’re in a very rural spot here, the skies are very dark at night which lends itself perfectly for fantastic stargazing on the decked area, equipped with hot tub, fire pit and seating.
6. Thistledown Glamping, Ceredigion
Tucked away down a single track road in West Wales, you’ll find two hand-build shepherd’s huts, both with their own hot tubs. One of the huts, named Wren, has a beautiful Scandi wood-fired hot tub encircled by a comforting willow fence.
There’s also a raised deck complete with firepit and canopy, so you’ve got everything at your disposal for an evening outside at one with nature. The other hut – Finch – which is bigger and sleeps 4 people has the hot tub as seen in the image. Both of the huts have been built by the owner, Tim, and they are spectacularly well finished and furnished on the inside.
7. Crake Trees, Lake District
Up in the Lake District set in your own little meadow is Crake Trees. A rustic and quaint shepherd’s hut that offers a more minimalistic approach to luxury. Around the back of the hut is the wood-fired hot tub with stunning views over the fields and countryside.
This area has also been designated with a ‘Dark Sky Status’ – just what you want. This is also a dog-friendly shepherd’s hut, which is just what I like to hear!
8. Dither Shepherd’s Hut, Dorset
There are actually two huts on this site – Dither and Faff. This gives an idea of what you can expect down here in Dorset, away from the modern busy world and into the world of dithering and faffing, in a pleasant way I’m sure.
The huts are extremely well made and include double opening doors, en-suite bathroom facilities, small log burner, a very comfy looking double bed and a wonderful wood-fired hot tub outside.
9. Meadow Head Orchard Hut, Lancashire
Meadow Head is a majestic hut in the heart of Lancashire. The high spec build and finish inside is coupled with outside with a firebowl, undercover seating area and hot tub bath! This really is top class in all sense.
The owners can even provide local duck eggs and juice from the apple trees when in season. The hut is a great advocate for sustainable living and looks out onto rewilding projects and tree planting initiatives the owners have took on. Unfortunately it isn’t dog friendly, otherwise it would be top of my list.
10. Dorset Forest Garden, Dorset
This beautifully finished hut set in a forest garden just 10 miles from Dorset’s Jurassic coast, is a true gem. With natural ecosystems, fruiting trees and herbs all growing and thriving together, you get a real sense of being at one with nature here. There are two huts each with a private garden and wood-fired hot tub.
The huts are finished to a very high standard inside but have the traditional aesthetics on the outside, including curved corrugated roof and cast iron wheels.
11. Dimpsey Hither, Somerset
Another carefully crafted hut, Dimpsey’s Hither has all the necessary amenities and luxury extras. You’ll find it in a Site of Special Scientific Interest bursting with wildlife in the Chard area of Somerset.
Outside you have access to a superb long recliner hot tub to sit and relaxed. When you’re finished there are deckchairs, a firepit and a garden oven to keep your tranquillity going. You can always jump back in the hot tub again afterwards!
12. The T Barn Shepherd’s Hut, Cotswolds
Stylish, suave and comfortable, the T Barn shepherd’s hut in the Cotswold is pure back to nature luxury. Inside the hut is presented like a 5* hotel with deluxe double bed and shelving, little table and chairs, shower room and small log burner.
There’s a whole load of useful furniture outside too inside a rustic firepit and private hot tub. Bliss.
13. Tilbury Herdwick, Somerset
You don’t see this kind of shepherd’s hut every day, a double hut with inside passage to join the two! This immense hut at Tilbury Herdwick offers everything you need for a luxury weekend, or even a week, away.
The decking outside provides a perfect platform to soak in the stunning views of Exmoor national park. On level with the decking is the wood-fired hot tub, an ideal spot to relax those muscles after a good days’ walk.
14. Aether’s Tilt, Shropshire
Ok, quick confession, this one isn’t actually a shepherd’s hut. It’s a huge hand-built, timber clad cabin with shepherd’s hut like cast iron wheels laid against the outside. Either way it’s a place of perfection.
This rustic retreat is nestled in a small valley offering visitors seclusion and privacy. The wood-fired hot tub sits on a great little platform a couple of strides away from the cabin doors which offers you the most brilliant, relaxing view you could ask for.
